My First Soap ~ Too Soon?

Well, here we are with my first soap creation! I am not unhappy with the way it turned out, but I think that I tried to unmold it a little too early. I made it at 8pm last night and unmolded it this morning around 9am.

As you will see in the video below, it took a bit of getting it out of the mold and some of the edges need a good tidy up.

The fragrance is incredible! The soap scent is very 'Chanel' like and consists of:

  • Top notes: Ylang Ylang and Iris

  • Mid notes: Rose and Jasmine

  • Base notes: Sandalwood, Vetiver and Vanilla

I can't wait for it to cure over the next 4-6 weeks so that I can use it! The soap weighs 130grams now but may be a smidge lighter once it cures.

I created the recipe for this soap using a lye calculator here.

This allowed me to sort out the percentages of oils, lye and fragrance (and be creative). It is full of beautiful oils and butters and will be an incredible product to use on your skin.

Having said that, I am going to be gifting some of this beautiful soap to dear friends and selling the rest - look for it in my shop in a month or so where it will be dressed up in its own beautiful wrapper with all ingredients listed.

I have watched many wonderful Soap Creators over the last couple of months and completed much research regarding soap science. I am of the solid belief that like nursing, soap making is both an art and a science.

Any Thoughts?

I would love to hear what you think ~ any soap magicians out there, I would be happy with any advice you many have.
